2010 | This collection of paintings represents both organic and non-organic images. Influenced from my own background in textile design, old and new architecture in China, the Pattern and Decoration Movement, artists such as Matisse and Rousseau, and foremost, nature. There is a balance of abstraction and representation in these paintings.
My intention was to liberally interpret scenes from my visit to the Peoples Republic of China, utilizing various common images such as bridges, arches, gardens, structures, textiles and carvings. The many shapes are interwoven into the patterned landscapes which depict both the old — such as the traditional Chinese gardens — and the new, contemporary architecture. [All paintings are acrylic on canvas.]
